Last month in March, we visited Ireland for two weeks. While the weather was mostly rainy and it was a brisk 2 – 10 degrees Celsius, we really enjoyed escaping the grey, snowy Ontario winter to explore the lush, green Irish countryside. Today, I’m sharing with you my packing list for our trip as well as a couple of my outfits and travel photos.
A few notes about our trip that helped me decide which clothing items to bring:
- We rented a car and road-tripped across Ireland, so I was able to bring a modest-yet-luxuriously-sized suitcase.
- We visited cities and towns while also doing some hiking.
- We mostly stayed in Airbnbs and while some had laundry available, I did not do any laundry during our visit due to our tight schedule.
Raincoat
The Stutterheim Mosebacke raincoat is made to withstand the rainiest weather. Its thicker weight also makes it a great piece to keep out the cold when layered over a sweater. Love how the unique shape also makes it a stylish choice for city adventures. This was by far my most-worn clothing piece during this rainy trip – I’m wearing it in almost every one of our travel photos! It never let me down, even when we encountered intense sideways rain/wind action. My hubby was super impressed, too (raincoat envy), and is now thinking about investing in the Stutterheim Stockholm style.
Anorak
Everlane’s City Anorak is a lighter outer layer than the Stutterheim Mosebacke that is still able to handle an unexpected drizzle of rain. It also keeps out the wind and looks stylish thrown on over almost any outfit. This piece was perfect for the airplane and for zipping in and out of shops when visiting larger cities.
Leggings
I packed my favourite pair from Encircled for travel days and lounging in the evenings at our Airbnb. So comfy!
Jeans
I packed two pairs of jeans – my black and dark blue Everlane Authentic Stretch High-Rise Skinnies. These jeans are so comfy and were definitely my daily go-to during our trip. Read why I love these jeans here.
Fleece Jacket
The Övik Fleece Hoodie from Fjällräven was my go-to piece for any hikes or athletic-type adventures. The fleece is warm, quick-drying and durable, and the zipper front makes it easy to regulate temperature when exercising.
Three-In-One Sweater
This sweater from VETTA has been one of my most-worn items this fall/winter. It can be worn three ways – as a crewneck, turtleneck or as a cardigan – which makes it the perfect versatile travel piece.
Wool Turtleneck
This Öland Turtleneck from John Sterner, made from merino wool, is so warm and
Norwegian Wool Sweater
This substantial knit from L.L. Bean’s Heritage Collection was my chilly weather go-to during our trip. Layered under a weatherproof outer shell, it keeps the cold out.
T-Shirts and Long-Sleeved Shirts
I brought eight T-shirts and four long-sleeved shirts. These were my base layers and doubled as my pyjamas. One of my current favourite T-shirt styles is Everlane’s Pima Micro Rib Scoop Neck; love how fitted these T-shirts are. I also highly recommend the Nomadic V-Neck from Encircled; the fabric is incredibly soft and the longer length makes this style perfect to wear with leggings.
Flannel
My flannel from Tradlands was the perfect layering piece and was also ideal for lounging in front of a cozy fireplace in the evenings. Loved how the red added a splash of colour to my travel wardrobe. You can read more about why I adore this shirt here.
Denim Shirt
My square denim shirt from Everlane is always one of my favourite travel pieces. It’s so versatile and the sturdy cotton keeps out the chill from a light breeze when layered with knits. This particular style is unfortunately sold out, but Everlane’s relaxed denim shirtin the same fabric is still available.
Rain Boots
These Hunter Chelsea Boots have been my trusty companions when we visited such rainy spots as Denmark and the Azores and they’ve never let me down. The smaller
Blundstone Boots
My Blundstones in the 510 Original Black style were absolutely perfect for this trip – warm, lightweight and mostly waterproof. I wore them daily and they proved to be ideal for all occasions – from trekking on hiking trails and climbing castle towers to wandering around cities and strolling along coastlines. These may very well be the best travel shoes!
Sneakers
I packed my super old Converse Chuck Taylors as my runners for this trip, but I wore them once for about an hour before switching back into my Blundstones after a downpour left my feet feeling extra soggy. If we had encountered less rain during our trip, I’m sure I would have worn these more often. Eventually, I hope to swap these out for an ethical option, such as a stylish pair from Veja, but for now, I will continue to wear and use what I have!

We had an amazing trip and enjoyed exploring the stunning Emerald Isle. Looking back, I feel that I packed just the right amount of clothing to ensure that I was ready for all of the activities we had planned and in any weather. Overall, visiting Ireland in March, during the cooler off season, was a great option which allowed us to save on travel costs and meant that we were able to avoid large crowds at the places we visited. We hope to visit again someday!
