Winters in Canada are cold and we usually receive a full spectrum of weather, including freezing rain, snow and temperatures ranging from 5 °C to -40 °C. All in all, I think this makes Canada the perfect climate to put winter coats to the test, which is just what I’ve done with this lovely wool trench from Everlane. As I’m sure you know if you follow me on Instagram, I’ve basically worn this coat non-stop since late October. Now that the ground is slowly defrosting and it feels like spring may make an appearance in the next couple of weeks, I’d like to share my thoughts on this trench and let you know how it’s held up this season.
This was my first purchase from Everlane, a company that focuses on Radical Transparency while providing a great line of stylish, ethically produced and quality wardrobe basics. I loved this wool trench as soon as I opened the box. The fabric (65% wool, 15% cashmere, 15% polyamide, 5% other materials) is soft and luxurious yet structured and does not wrinkle. While the coat is not thick, it is quite warm and wind proof and has kept me cozy during most types of weather when paired with a cashmere sweater and a wool scarf. All in all, I would say that this is the perfect everyday coat for trekking around town, going to work or for an afternoon stroll.
As I usually do with outerwear, I sized up to a medium in this coat as I wanted to make sure it was roomy enough to accommodate some sweater bulk for extra warmth. I’m glad I did as I think the shoulders may have otherwise been a bit snug. The only drawback with this coat has been that the sleeves are slightly short on me. However, at 5’10”, this is something I’m used to (#tallgirlproblems) and exposed wrists can easily be remedied by wearing longer gloves or sweaters with generous sleeves.
This coat looks great both dressed up with a skirt and heels and when worn casually with jeans, a sweatshirt and my adidas superstar sneakers. I especially enjoy wearing it unbuttoned and unbelted; there is just something about that classic trench coat silhouette that immediately makes you feel cool, chic and put together. After a season of daily use, this wool trench still looks great and shows limited signs of wear. It has been the perfect addition to my capsule wardrobe and I am sure I will look forward to pulling it out again next year when the weather begins to get frosty.
After the positive experience I’ve had with this coat, I’ve already added a couple of items from Everlane to my wishlist for my spring/summer capsule wardrobe.
Have you purchased anything from Everlane? I’d love to hear your thoughts and if there are any items you would recommend.
Thanks for reading and stay warm!
