We’re currently in the middle of a rather premature heat wave and I’ve been craving all things summer. Sandals, sunglasses, swimming, and ice cream have been at the top of my priority list, especially since our home air conditioning unit decided to call it quits and our house is reaching sauna-like temperatures (ugh!). That being said, there are four new additions to our home that I’ve been loving lately, some of which are quite summer-weather appropriate.
First, is this Lars Botten print from Urban Outfitters and mounted in an IKEA frame. The colours of this print just scream summer and remind me of red, white and blue firecracker popsicles (pretty much a staple in my diet during these hot days!). This print is currently living on the photo rail in our bedroom until it finds a permanent place in our home. Doesn’t this photograph just make you crave a dip in a pool on a hot summer’s day, complete with the sound of buzzing cicadas and the smell of coconut sunscreen?
Next, is this white glazed ceramic indoor planter which now houses our palm. I came across this planter at HomeSense and am so glad I did! I really like how it is a simple white, which makes it understated beside our white walls, yet interesting because of its unique shape. White with pops of green is one of my all-time favourite combos; it always looks fresh, clean, and inviting.
These white marble stone coasters are also a recent favourite. The geometric hexagonal shape makes them modern and cool and they are nice and flat, preventing the dreaded full-glass-on-coaster wobble. These were also a HomeSense find, but there are many similar ones on Etsy, and here (octagons!) and here (squares!). Bring on the summer gin & tonics, loaded with extra ice!
Lastly, are these glass bottles from IKEA. These bottles seem to be the recent standard for table water and restaurants and something about them transforms filtered tap water into fancy water. Seriously, the water tastes better after being in these glass bottles! We drink Brita filtered water at home, which is fine, but the plastic jug is rather unsightly. So, we’ve been funnelling the filtered water into these bottles and have been putting them in the fridge so that they’re chilled and ready to go. They are the perfect complement to a nicely set table.
Happy weekend and stay cool.
