Spring has sprung! Perennials are in full bloom, tree branches are covered in fragrant blossoms, and the air is filled with the soft hum of delighted bumblebees. As with my wardrobe, I tend to gravitate towards more monochromatic nail colours, like grey and black during the colder months. With the arrival of spring, I enjoy incorporating slightly softer, more romantic shades inspired by the colours of the season. These shades from essie are my top four nail colour picks for spring.
Overall, essie is my go-to nail polish brand. They have a wide range of colours to choose from, are available at most drug stores/department stores, and tend to go on smoothly. Also, I am a sucker for the clean lines of the essie nail polish bottle; the shape and design are simple and minimalist chic which really makes the polish colour pop. The polish usually lasts at least a week for me without chipping, as long as I use a quality base coat and top coat (like this one and this one).
My first fav shade is essie’s adore-a-ball. I was actually a bit disappointed when I first tried this one, as it’s quite sheer and I had been hoping for a bold white. However, once I tried a true opaque white polish, I was quick to dig out this sheer shade from the back of the drawer. The white polish was far too stark for my skin tone and I found it to be slightly reminiscent of painting my nails with wite-out in grade 4. Adore-a-ball needs a few coats not to look streaky, but is a beautiful, translucent shade that can be worn for almost any occasion. It is classic, feminine, and looks très chic.
I picked up essie’s sand tropez on sale for about $3.50 at the grocery store (hurray!) and it’s become my go-to shade when I’m looking for a nude polish. It’s the perfect complement to my skin tone and looks very elegant, especially when worn with at black outfit. The colour is somewhat hard to pin-point as it seems to transform depending on what hues it is worn with; sometimes it looks beige, sometimes grey, sometimes slightly pink. All in all, it is one of my staple nail polishes that I wear year-round.
As suggested by the name, perennial chic is pretty much the quintessential shade for spring. It’s a soft pink, blush shade that looks a little like the Pantone colour of the year, rose quartz. I have been loving the blush palette for a while now and am thrilled that there are so many blush clothing options and shoes to choose from this season. Also, I am about 98% sure that this will be the shade I choose to wear for my wedding this summer!
I must have been feeling particularly adventurous when I picked up tart deco as this vibrant pink-coral hue is quite a departure from my beloved neutrals. That being said, I’ve worn it fairly often and it’s a nice transition colour as we head into the summer months. It really pops when wore with an all black outfit and looks stellar when paired with lighter denim or white.
Perhaps I should venture out and expand my nail polish horizons more often. Lately, I can’t seem to get essie’s saltwater happy out of my mind…
