Spring has been somewhat reluctant so far, but after a long winter spent indoors, you just want to get outside! Although it was rather chilly and rainy today, we put on our wellies and went for a Sunday afternoon countryside stroll. It was a little drizzly as we were heading out the door, so I threw on my trench coat to cover my legs and keep me dry. I recently picked up this classic trench from Gap and it has been my go-to so far this season.

This trench is a classic piece that looks equally great when paired with heels and a dress for work, casually with jeans, a t-shirt and some sneakers, or with wellies and a scarf for a rainy day. I have yet to wear it buttoned up and buckled, as it makes me feel more effortless cool and chic when it’s left undone. This trench coat is not made from a waterproof material, but has still kept me warm and dry during several bouts of rain, probably because it is made of a lovely thick cotton material.

I was on the lookout for the right trench coat for a long time, but everything I tried on just didn’t seem quite right. Some coats were too short and just didn’t have that longline look I was going for; others were made out of material that had a sheen to it which I did not care for; and some had shiny metal details and buttons. I really wanted a classic trench that was simple, versatile and practical.

When I saw this coat online at Gap, I knew it was the one. Best of all, it’s from Gap Tall, which is perfect for some like me who’s ever so slightly north of 5’10”. Regular fit coats often look a little shrunken on me — the sleeves are too short (so I always roll them up, which often leads to cold, exposed wrists) and if the coat has a belt, it never hits me at my natural waistline. Long story short, I am happy that I shopped around and didn’t settle on the first trench that crossed my path. It’s a classic piece that I am sure will be in my wardrobe for years to come. I look forward to wearing this coat A LOT this spring.
